Guitar Pickups
Other Humbuckers These earlier humbuckers are well known for their high clarity and definition. They can bring out every nuance in the inner voices of complex chords. The attack and overall quality of tone is in the region between crisp, acoustic tone and the rounded, or "diffused", treble quality of vintage humbuckers. This allows a very flexible interaction with on-board and amplifier tone settings. The active pickups in this group have accessible preamps that can power other passive pickups on an instrument. The preamp gain can be modified in many ways for tonal shaping and for overdrive characteristics. If the model name ends with -FW, it means Fender Width or 2.01" center to center string width at the pickup. If the model name ends with -GW, it means Gibson Width or 1.91" center to center string width at the pickup. |
1C our first humbucker ~1975 - same wire, unequal windings for a clear, clean tone that tends toward single coil - less warmth in the mids than equal winding designs |
1CTA very near the 1C tone (part way to single coil tone) but equal windings for best noise rejection - at Tuck Andress's request ~ 1980 - used only in neck position |
V88-C very bright to glassy humbucker - for neck position (last made in 2009) |
V88-D smooth, clean, deep tone bridge to match V88-C (now made by special order only) |
V92C-B bright, smooth, clear - for neck position with V94-D bridge (recommended) - useable as a very bright bridge pickup |
V94-D more mid enhancement, more of a "voice", deeper bridge humbucker - good match to V92C-B (last made in 2007) |
1D-01 neck pickup of "grunge pair" - very good mids |
Active Humbuckers |
E90 neck - active single coil in HB shape (with hum-canceller coil), high output + boost (9-volt operation only) |
E90-D bridge - active dual coil (with E90 coils), high output + boost (9-volt operation only) |
E92C-B neck - active version of V92C-B, coil cut, high output + boost (9-volt operation only) |
E94-D bridge - active version of V94-D, coil cut, high output + boost (9-volt operation only) |
E88-C neck - active version of V88-C, coil cut, high output + boost (9-volt operation only) |
E88-D bridge - active version of V88-D, coil cut, high output + boost (9-volt operation only) |
Strat* replacement single coil pickups |
Note: these are not Vertical Hum Cancellers (stacked coils) - we make them in North Up (N) and South Up (S) magnetic polarities - for good hum and noise rejection, use them in: |
North / South pairs V88S-S (neck) and V88S-N (middle) for example |
North / South / North triples (in Strats) or |
South / North / South triples (in Strats) |
3D-01 bright and deep with excellent mids |
V88S bright, clear, glassy top |
3XQ bright, smooth single coil - especially good in the middle position |
3X deeper than the 3XQ - smooth, clear, jazzy - excellent for neck position |
3XR deeper than the 3X, louder, with more lows and mids, good for bridge position |
3S tapped single coil - full windings are deeper and stronger than 3XR, tapped tone much brighter - good choice at bridge position |
